Toronto Hydro – Ontario Energy Board Community Meetings

The Ontario Energy Board (OEB) regulates Ontario’s energy sector and sets distribution rates for local utilities. Toronto Hydro has applied to the OEB to change its distribution rates effective January 1, 2020. As part of our review of this application, the OEB wants to hear from their customers and ensure that they have an opportunity to have their say. Towards that end, they are holding a series of community meetings throughout the city, beginning November 22. Five of the six meetings will be in-person as well as livestreamed. The sixth will be a webinar. Dates, times and locations follow below, and each event linked for registration on Eventbrite. Registration is not required, but appreciated.

The OEB is holding community meetings so that consumers can have an opportunity to:

  • speak with utility representatives directly and ask why they want the change they’re proposing
  • ask us questions about our process and find out how to get involved
  • give us their comments about the application, verbally or in writing, which we give to the decision-makers to consider as part of the hearings process

Consumers are also welcome to make a presentation if they like. The OEB will keep notes about the questions and comments made at the meetings. They will also file a report so the decision-makers at the Ontario Energy Board are aware of all the concerns that utility customers raise about an application – the very people who may be affected by the changes their utility is requesting.
