Crime Update

Improving!

A single auto theft in March brought our year-to-end-of March total to two, down considerably from seven in the same period last year. House break and enters remain at three, all in February, down from four to the end of March last year. Also, B&E’s at commercial establishments on Avenue Road between Lawrence and the 401 reduced considerably to just one from nine last year to end of March. While the trends are improving, one can never rest on one’s laurels. We continue to attend Community Police Liaison Committee (CPLC) meetings while at the same time urging residents to stay alert to crime within our neighbourhood and to take proactive measures to prevent crime.

At the CPLC meeting in March, we inquired about the status of the cameras to be installed at the 401 ramps with Avenue Road and Bathurst. These cameras were to have automatic license plate reading (ALPR) technology. The cameras have been approved albeit without the ALPR technology which is still undergoing a privacy review. However, FUNDING remains an obstacle. Our personal view is that the cameras have dropped lower on the priority list. We will continue to track progress but hope is fading.

Reminder: Easy Theft from Vehicles

Unlocked vehicles provide easy pickings for thefts of belongings from inside the autos. There has been a report of an individual rummaging through unlocked vehicles at night. Fortunately, there is an easy fix: just lock your vehicles! And don’t leave anything of value in them.
